About Bressingham Gardens

Bressingham Gardens were established by the late Alan Bloom who moved to Bressingham Hall in 1946 where he hoped to become farmer and nurseryman on the 220 acre plot. He was already an internationally renown plant expert (particularly in perennials) and created the Dell Garden which is famous for its island beds of perennials to show off the perennial blooms of Bressingham Nursery. More gardens were eventually laid out by his son Adrian Bloom such as the Foggy Bottom Garden, and then later he added Adrian’s Wood, The Summer Garden, The Winter Garden and The Fragrant Garden.

A miniature railway runs through the Dell Garden, starting at the terminus station of the onsite Steam Museum and from there heading into the Dell Garden, allowing passengers clear views of the wonderful flower beds.

The site has several narrow gauge railway lines and a number of steam engines and vehicles in its collection for visitors to admire. The Bressingham Gardens Museum is also the home of the national Dad's Army Collection, containing vintage vehicles from the show and film.
